Christkreuz, a church in Germany’s capital of Berlin, was part of the bishop’s residence at the time it was built in 1882. But in 2006, the church was sold to a university that has developed the property as a student residence. The new owners of the property are now putting up a six-story student residence in the center of the site, which contains a Roman Catholic shrine to St. Joseph. The structure is made out of concrete and has been designated as a special building with a height of up to 20 meters. The project has received a permit to raise the height limit for the site, which is located in a district in central Berlin. “The [student residence] will be the first residential building on the site,” according to a spokesman for the Berlin Senate. “The authorization is limited to a 20-meter-high construction and the building is designed to resemble the dome of the Basilica of St. Joseph.” “The dome of St. Joseph has become a symbol of the concept of the university residence, which the Senate has approved,” the spokesman added. The change in use of the building has come as a result of the demolition of another property in the neighborhood that had been used as a convent. “After the sisters were relocated to a new location, the house was taken over by the university. This is now planned to become a student residence for the beginning of the academic year next fall,” the spokesman said. He added that the structure was first built to accommodate students, but it would be “dedicated to faith” in the future. The new student residence is expected to open next year, and has been designed to accommodate 260 students. Despite the change in use, the church has continued to remain an active place of worship, where Catholics can hold baptisms, weddings and funerals. “The area around the
